Team KUPL

When Alana Lynn from Lee and Alana in the Morning participated in the 2008 Hood To Coast Relay, the largest relay event in the world, she inspired a whole team of people from KUPL to accomplish their fitness goals.  As a benchmark, we've decided to compete in the Portland To Coast Walk in August 2009 as Team KUPL

The Portland To Coast Walk is the largest walk relay in the world, consisting of over 4,000 walkers annually.  This year's event will take place Friday, August 28, and Saturday, August 29, 2009.  The relay runs from downtown Portland to Seaside, a length of approximately 127 miles.

We know that that the radio lifestyle (sitting around and talking about nothing important) is not going to prepare us for a relay event, so we've partnered with a new gym in Portland, CrossFit MLK.  Taking the routine out of workout, they have programs customized to everybody's fitness level and will be cracking the whip over Team KUPL to make sure we're ready for the big race.

Both Alana and Earthquake Jake have committed to doing a Kirstie Alley-esque bathing suit reveal in Seaside at the end of the event and intend to be at their target-goal weight by the event as well.  Check out their blogs below, as well as blogs from the rest of Team KUPL.

THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS!

We’re now just over a month away from the Portland to Coast Relay and I am ready to roll! When I most recently jumped on the scale I weighed 178.8 lbs. That means I have lost nearly 20 lbs since starting Crossfit at the end of January 2009! It’s worth noting again how much I celebrated when I broke the 190 lb mark on the scale back in back in May. To now break 180 is awesome! You’d be amazed how much a little proven success motivates you to work harder and stay on track.

Not only have I lost pounds but I have also experienced significant strength gains. I can honestly say that with my old exercise regimen of wandering around the gym and doing the same exercises, I hadn’t experienced any strength gains in years. But now thanks to Crossfit I can now bang out pull ups like no other and I have consistently added weight to all our resistance training exercises such as squats and all the other dead lift exercises. Now I can run, hike and mountain bike farther and faster without my muscles tiring.

The Crossfit staff is always coming up with new exercises and workout combinations which challenge my abilities and quite honestly kick my butt. It is so satisfying to bang out an intense workout in 30 minutes or less and know that you’re done exercising for the day. Crossfit really has been a “wake up” call for me and will forever change how I train and exercise. Bring it on Portland to Coast!
