Cloverdayle – 2/19/12

Cloverdayle is opening up our KUPL Hoot ‘N Holler show on the 29th, and stopped in this weekend to talk about their upcoming opportunity to record in Nashville. Help them raise funds by donating here.

CLOVERDAYLE is a performing and songwriting Country duo from Oregon that features Chad Hamar on rhythm acoustic guitar and Rachel Hamar on lead vocals. Just two months after forming Cloverdayle in the Spring of 2008, their first show was at a battle of the bands where four Northwest based Country acts, hand picked by the local Country radio station, competed in front of a panel of judges for the chance to open for Kenny Chesney. After winning, Cloverdayle’s second show was when they opened for Kenny Chesney at the Clark County Amphitheater in front 18,000 people. Since their rapid launch into the Country Music market, Cloverdayle has been invited to share the stage with Lady Antebellum, Tim McGraw, Wynonna, Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Jake Owen, and Josh Turner to name a few.

Megan Wade – 2/11/2012

Megan Wade wrote her first song when she was eight years old and couldn’t stop writing songs from that day forward. After years of begging her parents for a guitar, she finally got her first guitar for Christmas when she was 11. She taught herself how to play guitar and begin adding music to the songs she was writing.
She began performing in front of people her freshman year of high school and went on to win the Sherwood High School talent show her junior and senior year. In 2010 she was voted by her senior class “most likely to get a record deal”. She recorded her first EP in 2010 that included six original songs. She is currently working on her second EP which will include 11 new, original, songs. Megan attends Portland State University and still writes and performs as often as she can. She hopes that she will be able to become a professional recording artist.

Concrete Cowboys – 1/29/2012

To put it simply: This band is NUTS.
Yeah, in a good way, but keep an eye on ‘em nevertheless.

CRAZY.
It’s not a word you’d associate with today’s watered-down, pop-friendly country music. But when Chad Kessner careens around the stage belting out Waylon’s “I’ve Always Been Crazy”, it’s not just a tribute to a fallen outlaw; it’s a testimonial from a man that’s been there and back.

Just how insane are The Concrete Cowboys?

- Crazy enough to enter the prestigious Ponderosa Battle of the Bands as their 1st show ever, and beat out 28 other bands over the course of a month.

- Crazy enough to fly to Nashville six months after forming with a handful of CDs and knock on doors up and down Music Row.

- Crazy enough to attempt and achieve radio airplay on Portland’s KUPL, the biggest country station in the state with a self-produced “demo” recorded in a marble slab warehouse.

- Just certifiable enough to tackle the country music world’s youth-obsessed culture with a line-up that ranges from age 36 to 60.

There ain’t no rookies in this band, but there’s enough frenzied energy in their live show to knock a few sub woofers off the stage, so the first few rows beware: You’re not dealing with normal people here.

Aarun Carter, their fiddle player, is actually fundraising to get her own Documentary.  Check it out here.

Heidi Canfield – 1/22/2012

Heidi Canfield grew up with a musical background as her grandmother was the piano/organist for their church. Heidi would get on any talent contest, production, performances or musicals that she could get her hands on growing up. knowing that music was always going to be a part of her future. Heidi Competed in online contests such as Myspace Karaoke for established artists placing 2nd in Christina Aguilera, 3rd in KT Tunstall and 3rd in Sugarland. From there Heidi was invited to join in a cover band covering the top 40′s hits, and singing artists such as pink, the veronicas & Nickelback.

In the process of performing with Heidi’s cover band, fate seemed to lay their cards down and she was introduced to a piano player, Deborah Louie, who had recognized Heidi’s talent immediately and joined the then current cover band. Personalities clicked and soon after Deborah started sharing originals and performing them with Heidi. After taking some time to think, Heidi realized that she wanted a career beyond just covers and decided to start working with her songwriter and now current manager Deborah Louie on getting into a studio and making original hits. The relationship and trust between the 2 grew so strong that they now take on a duo role of Writing and performing a completely all original song list.

Since spring of 2011, Heidi has been in studio working on getting her first album completed. Her music unique to itself, is a cross between techno, pop and rock. Heidi’s love for music and for sharing it with her fans is evident as she comments “I have music I want to share with the world, and want to help people express their own emotions with my songs, if I succeed there, then I’m fulfilling my dreams”.

Tiffany Kuenzi – 1/8/2011

Tiffany Kuenzi

Born in Arizona and raised in Oregon, singing sensation Tiffany Kuenzi has a lifelong love for music that stems from her childhood. As a young girl, Tiffany couldn’t stop singing. Wherever and whenever an opportunity to perform presented itself, Tiffany was ready to showcase her passion and natural gift. Yet unfortunately, throughout her childhood, Tiffany continually began to feel stifled as a bu…dding musician, lacking support from those around her. As she faced a daily stream of emotional and verbal abuse from a rather antagonistic person in her daily life, she eventually stopped singing altogether.

Not letting herself be completely broken by the malicious efforts of this negative influence, Tiffany turned to writing as a means of expression at the age of 12, and she found herself developing as a poet. As her confidence grew in her talents with writing, Tiffany eventually was motivated to write music, inputting her developing skills as a poet into her life-long love of singing. Nurturing her songwriting abilities, Tiffany was constantly encouraged by her number one fan, her grandmother, who inspired her to continue singing and follow a path in the pursuit of her musical passion.

After the sudden and devastating death of her grandmother, Tiffany turned to her songwriting once again to help her express her sorrow, and wrote the song “Grandma’s Lullaby” in honor of her. The response of the song was overwhelming, as people who could relate to the pain of losing a loved one expressed how the lyrics and music of “Grandma’s Lullaby” brought them some peace. From this point, Tiffany was more driven than ever to continue making music and sharing her gift with others.

After finding success at a Christian based music talent competition, Tiffany’s career started to take off, taking her to Florida for performances and Nashville for songwriting and recording with some of the biggest names in country music. She since has continued to grow as a musician, fostering her natural abilities as her songwriting develops and she gains an increasing amount of recognition and support.

Although her beautiful singing voice is versatile, with a rich quality that lends her to many musical genres, Tiffany has a deep love and admiration for the story-telling aspect of country music, and comparisons have been drawn between Tiffany and country superstars Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert. Tiffany finds inspiration for her music from her life experiences, using the challenges she faces as opportunities for growth as a musician and person. In her music, Tiffany endeavors to maintain an honest approach to her songwriting, sharing her experiences as a means of connecting with her listeners and making emotionally effective music.

An active young woman, Tiffany stays involved with various charities in addition to her constant progression as a musician, including Habitat for Humanity, the Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization, and the Kiwanis, which she has been steadily involved with for over 6 years. With a deep love for children, Tiffany is passionate being vocal about her difficult childhood as a means to inspire and connect with kids suffering from bullying and tough domestic environments. As she continues to gain worthy recognition and develop her abilities as a naturally talented artist, Tiffany dreams of becoming a musician that can reach and inspire children worldwide with her music.

With songs that are universally relatable, a compassionate and sincere spirit and a beautiful singing voice, Tiffany Kuenzi is an artist to keep on the lookout for, as there is no doubt that this fresh new talent will soon be the next big country superstar!

Bradley Black & South Bound Train- 12/4/11

Bradley Black and South Bound Train

At the age of 15, Bradley Black bought his first guitar, had someone tune those six intimidating strings, learned his first three chords, and his long journey to Tennessee began…not that he knew it then. He didn’t purchase that guitar or learn those three chords because of his love of music or dreams of being a rock star, but in true cowboy style, he bought that guitar to write a song that would impress and win over the heart of a girl. He can’t recall if that song worked the way he intended, but his love of writing music was born.

In the days since that first appeal to a teenage girl’s heart, this Oregon-born country boy has devoted his life to all the adventures this world and this life have to offer. Those adventures drive the story in each song he writes. From the west coast of the U.S. to the north coast of Ireland, from the -40 degree winters on the ranch in northern Montana to that 110 degree summer in the desert of Nevada, from the top of the Rocky Mountains to the shores of the Gulf of Mexico and every place in between, with plenty of stops for bull riding, bronc bustin’, car racing, and swing dancing. His songs will give you more stories and more adventure than you could live in ten lifetimes.

Like Odysseus, John Wayne, and Chris LeDoux wrapped into one, this cowboy will take you around the world and back again.

Lock, Stock, and Barrel – 9/25/2011

Five years ago on a military base in the Pacific Northwest, the in-your-face, blues-inspired riffs of Arkansas southern rock encountered the timeless, soul-changing melodies of Texas country when Ty Titus and Glenn Dutch met over an acoustic guitar.  With both a passion and talent for music that refused to be ignored, the two formed a sound that would eventually carve out its own unique place in country music.  Lock, Stock, & Barrel had been born.

It wasn’t until the summer of 2010, however, after having met Paul Jones of Criminal Records, that a chain of events was set into motion that ultimately shaped the band into the musical powerhouse that it is today.  Paul introduced Ty and Glenn to monster guitar player, established producer, and engineer Ronn Chick while recording their first album.  Through Ronn, the driving and relentlessly catchy groove of one of the Northwest’s most distinguished bass players, Johnny “Blaze” Stanford, was added to the mix.  Wrapping up what was already a stellar cast of musicians, the boys brought in the solid, infectious backbeat of their good friend and colleague, drummer Josh Pelham.

With such ambition and potential it should come as no surprise that Lock, Stock & Barrel exploded into the Northwest country scene and has spread like wildfire.  After the release of their debut album “Times Up” last July (which reached #1 on DigStation and #4 on ReverbNation within a week of its release), they have received significant airtime on 98.7 KUPL and 105.5 KUKN as well as appearing on news stations Fox 12 and Koin 6.  Multiple, glowing reviews of the band have been published in The Oregonian, Positively Entertainment and Willamette Week. They have also had the honor of sharing the stage with some of Nashvilles finest talent, including Bomshel, Josh Gracin, and even the legendary David Allen Coe.
