Redneck Cruise Line…lol. I love it! Plus we have PBR tickets and the KUPL Big Plastic Payoff…we want to pay one of your bills…FRIDAY morning at 7:20 on 98-7 KUPL.

The People’s Choice
The People’s Choice Awards show is tonight (Wednesday 1/11) on CBS. This young lady leads the nominations among country artists…

Yep, that’s Taylor Swift. Her nominations includes Favorite Female of the Year and Favorite Tour Headliner. Blake Shelton is up against Justin Bieber for Favorite Male. Lady Antebellum‘s “Own The Night” is country music’s only Album of the Year nominee. And you can look forward to a performance from Faith Hill tonight.
Simon’s photo du jour
This is one of those things I would be way too chicken to do. This guy is standing on a huge rock wedged more than 3,000 feet up between two cliff faces. The rock is known as the Kjeragbolten boulder and it is in the Kjerag mountains in Norway. I remember once climbing a 1000-foot radio station tower to see how far up I would be brave (or stupid) enough to go. I think I made it about 20 feet before getting the willies and coming right back down…lol.
I know some of you live for these kind of moments…otherwise we wouldn’t have any firefighters, loggers, highrise window cleaners, roofers or people to change the flashing red lights on top of our radio towers. Crazy daredevils. Oh, and thanks.

Simon’s 12 Days of Grinch
Whew! Finally got my Christmas lights up over the weekend. Here’s a photo…tell me what you think:

I know what you’re thinkin’…that’s not my house either and I still don’t have my lights up. Well, I’d like to tell you that you have another think coming. I’d like to tell you that, but I can’t because you’re absolutely right. But maybe today’s the day. Check back here tomorrow.

Grinch no more Day 2
Here ya go…I finally bought a few lights and put ‘em up on my house last night. Here’s the outcome…
Alright, alright…that’s not my house either…lol. It’s the Queen Anne Victorian Mansion at 1441 N. McClellan…open daily from 6-10 evenings Dec. 12 thru 27th. The Queen Anne is a 5,500 square foot mansion built in the 1880’s with 2.5 million lights -that’s a lot of lights!! It is an amazing home and display of lights. The home is also open for tours. Maybe I’ll get my lights up this weekend and post the picture Monday! Have a great weekend.

Grinch no more?
We were talking on the show about how I felt like a Grinch for having (darn near) the only house in my neighborhood with no Christmas lights. I felt so bad, I ran out right after the show, bought some lights and decorated my house. Here it is…
Okay, that’s not really my house. I still don’t have lights up. Maybe I’ll get some today and post the picture tomorrow…lol

GRIMM
We really enjoyed having Reggie Lee in the studio with us. Reggie plays Sgt. Wu on the fabulous new NBC show “Grimm” which is filmed and set in Portland. By the way, Reggie is a HUGE Garth fan!

Dude looks like a frailty

Makes you want to be a little more careful in the shower, doesn’t it?
Ouch.
Billy Ray Cyrus has close encounter
Billy Ray Cyrus claims he recently saw several alien ships. He posted pics of the ships on his Twitter page and wrote: “O. K. . ..my first U F O sighting. Looks like 5 or 6 disk like shapes hovering. Special moment 4 DAD.” See if you see the flying saucers in this photo:

Yeah, me neither. Look like clouds to me. But, like Jake said this morning, if you were flying an alien spaceship around earth, wouldn’t you “cloak” your saucer to look like a cloud too? And, no…this isn’t Billy Ray posing with one of the green-skin aliens:

That’s his son Trace Cyrus. He’s having a clothes encounter of the third kind. But nice tatts!

Now THAT was scary!!
We put on our big boy pants and visited the scariest place in town last night…FrightTown underneath Memorial Coliseum! (L-R): Scott Simon, Jolynn Winter, Baron Von Goolo, Earthquake Jake and TikTak.

Boo!
That’s who???
Brad tweeted this “photo” of Carrie Underwood…after some special treatment with one of his apps.

Now THAT’s a sandwich!!
Jake and I were talking about what makes a great club sandwich, so I had to share my favorite with you (well, I’m not actually sharing mine, you’ll have to get your own)…it’s the Hamburger Clubhouse at the Lakeside Chalet Restaurant in Camas. Check this out…slices of ham, lettuce, tomato, cheese, bacon and a hamburger patty! Yummm! The fries are great too.

Tim and Faith Barbies
As mentioned in Simon’s Celebrity Soup, here’s the new Tim and Faith Barbie dolls.

What are ya…Goofy???
It was a fun and magical moment when Goofy stopped by the Simon in the Morning studio.

Disney Parks are inviting everyone to make new memories with “Let The Memories Begin.” And you can add some Disney magic to your own photos on the website www.letthememoriesbegintour.com.
All his friends say…stay off the skateboard!!
Luke Bryan got stitches in his forehead after falling off a skateboard he had just purchased in New York City after a Today Show visit. He posted a photo of his stitches on Twitter, calling the accident his “latest screw up.” Here it is…

Nola Strikes Again!!
Okay, Nola is at it again. In response to my innocent (and understandable) whining about her caricature creation depicting me as twice as wide as Jolynn or Jake, she pulled a Frankenstein and re-created me using Jake’s body and Jolynn’s hair. Whaddaya think? Funny thing…it could pass for my high school yearbook photo! lol

Kenny Chesney on Simon in the Morning
Getting ready for Kenny’s Goin’ Coastal Tour stop here in Portland, a phone call with Kenny…
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
One of these things is not like the other…
Nola sent this little creation to us, saying “Just remember, cartoons are NOT exact likenesses; they’re exaggerations of things…So, NO insults to anyone is intended at all…PROMISE!!! (: With that said…
No offense taken Nola. Why should I feel insulted that my caricature is obviously shorter and twice as wide as the other two? lol -Simon

A Spoonful of Sugar…
Oregon native Steffanie Leigh visits the Simon in the Morning studio. Steffanie plays MARY POPPINS on Broadway…and their North American Tour is in Portland at The Keller. This production is absolutely “must see”…practically perfect in every way and Steffanie is truly magnificent as Mary Poppins.
Here’s Steffanie with Scott Simon (and the parrot umbrella)…

Deadliest Catch on Simon in the Morning
We had Josh Harris (Ding, and now the co-owner of The Cornelia Marie with his brother Dong since their dad Captain Phil passed away) on Simon in the Morning, and listener Michelle Gregg from Troutdale emailed me this photo of her with The Cornelia Marie’s Josh & Jake, Steve Ward (electrician) and Ryan Simpson (deckhand) at The Astoria Fishermen’s Festival last year. Thanks Michelle!
That’s what I love about…Craig Morgan
Craig Morgan was honored Saturday at the Grand Ole Opry House for his efforts in rescuing two small children from a house fire in Charlotte, TN. Craig was on his way home when a saw flames coming from a home, ran into the house and pulled two children outside…then helped firefighters hose the house down once they arrived.
Four members of the Tennessee City Volunteer Fire Department (TCVFD) presented an award for his courageous efforts. He was also awarded honorary lifetime membership to the Tennessee City Fire Dept. with full rights and privileges as a member. Craig received his own helmet and department identification number.
