I grew up (literally!) in the Mt Hood National Forest east of Corbett, OR in the Columbia River Gorge. But my grandparents on both sides lived most of their lives in NE Portland, and both my parents were raised there, so I spent LOTS of time in Portland as a kid too - it feels like home!
I grew up climbing trees, riding horses, and taking care of chickens and pigs on my family's farm in Corbett with my brother, Josh. Both of us were home-schooled through high school. I graduated from Mt Hood Community College in 2003, and from Portland State University in 2006. No, I didn't study radio, I studied Spanish and French LOL. Both of which I'd like to get totally fluent in....someday......
:-)
I've been listening to country since I was born - the very first music I ever remember hearing was The Statler Brothers and The Judds (my mom and I used to listen to them in the kitchen every summer while we were canning!)
I was always extremely intrigued by the Portland radio scene as a kid - I used to sneak this ancient old beat-up radio of my dad's out into the barn with me so I could listen while I was doing my chores! I knew all the DJ's, all the songs, all the artists. LOL!
My first radio gig was at KMHD, The Jazz Station, at Mt Hood Community College – fortunately a lot of really great people took me under their wings, and I learned a ton about radio - and jazz!
2 1/2 years later one of the biggest dreams of my life came true when I got hired at KUPL, and what a blessing it's been to find out that the station and the music and DJ's I listened to growing up are every bit as cool as I thought they were as a listener and even cooler!!
To me, it's truly a priviledge to be a part of KUPL, and it's a priviledge to a part of your life. Thank you for giving me that honor every night!
