2008 Summer Camps
Bicycles are the perfect way to explore Portland's parks, pools, and other treasures this summer. This fun, experiential camp has weekly sessions from June - August from 9am - 3pm with a wide range of sessions for kids from 6 - 15 at all skill levels. Scholarships and earn-a-bike options available.
In Camp Fire USA’s Xploregon program three groups of 20 Portland area teens will travel together across Oregon starting June 08. The itinerary includes outdoor adventure activities and community service projects. Teens will plan the trip, from managing budgets to connecting with partner organizations across Oregon to complete service projects, all in a two week trip. Along the way, they will learn more about themselves and local communities. Ultimately, they will be working to make a difference and bridge the urban/rural divide. This year registration is FREE!
In the studio and on stage, be a star this summer at Acting Academy. Discover hidden talents, gain confidence, make friends, and have fun under the guidance of our professional instructors. With a variety of classes for a wide range of ages and skills, there's no better time to discover theater. Classes are held in our downtown studios as well as on-stage at local theaters. This horse camp allows campers to experience outdoor camping, dutch oven cooking, high mountain meadows, clear mountain streams and air, wildlife and wild flowers all while trail riding leisurely through the pristine high country of Washington State’s rugged Cascade Mountain Range. This get-back-to-nature experience takes place in one of the world’s most spectacular and unspoiled wilderness areas. All the programs offered by High Country Outfitters, Camp Wahoo and the Wahoo Wilderness Discovery are designed to handle different individual skill levels.
Classes and camps take place at Sunnyside Church on 3520 SE Yamhill Street and focus on creating an original show from skills learned in class...physical theater, creative movement, juggling, stilt-walking, and acrobatics. Camps culminate in a performance for parents and friends during the last 30 minutes of Friday's class. Weekly classes meet every Wed. from June 25 - Aug. 6 for ages 3 1/2 and up & week long summer camps run Mon - Fri July 7 - Aug. 1.
BodyVox offers a Summer Dance Camp June 16th -27th, Monday thru Friday for children ages 3-12. Students will learn the skills required of of a BodyVox performer: multi-disciplinary movement, innovation, theatricality, and creativity. Classes include creative dance, stackrobats, contemporary jazz, composition, ballet, yoga, Pilates, improvisation, and music/rhythm. Registration deadline is June 8, 2008.
Another wonderful summer of fun activity is fast approaching. Since 1983, our professional camp staff have been leading children in exploring and discovering the wonders of the Zoo through hands-on, interactive, experiential learning.
This summer, let Portland Center Stage introduce your teen to the confidence-building fun of learning live performance skills through one or more of the PCS GreenHouse teen summer camps. This is an age-appropriate exploration of theatre and performance. Are you looking for a fun and productive way to stimulate your family’s imagination? Would you like to introduce your talented teens to a creative new peer group? Whatever your aspirations, GreenHouse has something for you.
From August 11th-15th, Portland Taiko will present a “Kids Camp” (ages 5-8) and a “Youth Camp” (ages 9-16) for kids who want to explore the art and cultural context of Taiko. The camp culminates with a picnic & demonstration on August 17th.
Camp Howard is located 45 minutes east of Portland in Corbett, between the Columbia Gorge and Sandy on 240 serene, gorgeous acres overlooking Mt. Hood. Tall trees, streams, ponds and endless hiking trails assure a true outdoors-experience.
